Large monolithic organizations are experiencing a process of decentralization and empowerment of individual business units. It is no surprise that training methodologies are being continuously refined to meet the demands of changing times. Training methodologies vary with every organization, its values, objectives and goals. Methodologies that are more participative and learner-centered in their approach are being preferred over traditional classroom training programmes. New methods of experiential learning are being used more frequently. Outdoor training and development, based on this philosophy of experiential learning, is a refreshingly different and potent method of achieving training and development goals. Vietnam Royal Tourism: We organise trips that are exciting, challenging, and occur in beautiful, untapped and unfrequented places. We teach basic skills for each outdoor activity and support each person in setting goals, exploring personal limits, breakthroughs in physical, mental, emotional and spiritual dimensions. Some of our courses focus primarily on technical instruction in outdoor skills such as climbing, rafting, and backcountry skiing. Others are more experiential and involve participants in logistics, leadership and making group decisions. A few involve personal transformation through activities such as Tai Chi, meditation, music, nature ritual, and vision quests. Our programs are designed to explore individual limits and barriers to self-development within a group context and encourage risk taking, trust building, and the development of personal vision and commitment to organizational goals and values. These programs provide an opportunity to explore new roles, dialogue about common concerns, practice teamwork and collaboration, and develop a sense of shared meaning and purpose. Outdoor activities such as ropes activiites, climbing, peak ascents and whitewater rafting are experiential mediums for developing these capacities in an action-oriented setting. |
